Are we utilising the skills we have?
In our work for clients in the people development space, we often write about the lack of UK skills. This report from the CIPD raises some other interesting questions:
Do we actually fully understand and utilise the skills already in our own organisations? (37% of respondents said they were overskilled in their roles)
Do you really need people with higher level degrees when they'll only use lower qualifications in their role? (30% said they didn't need a higher degree)
Should we not be looking to improve the skills of those we employ, especially those who are older, low-wage and part-time? (24% have had no training in the part year)
Investigating the untapped potential of UK skills is an interesting report to challenge our assumptions. And a guide to help counter skill mismatches.
